OSH training

OSH training for employees: when, how often and in what form

The employer must provide OSH training when an employee starts and repeatedly at least once every three years. We train your employees in person at your company or online via e-learning, with a test and a record for inspections.

When an employer must provide training

The employer must brief employees on OSH regulations (Section 7 of Act No. 124/2006 Coll.):

  • when they are hired,
  • when they are transferred to another workplace,
  • when they are assigned or transferred to other work,
  • when new technology, a new work procedure or new work equipment is introduced,
  • repeatedly – at least once every three years, unless a special regulation sets a shorter interval.
A common mistake: the OSH Act does not require repetition every 24 months but at least once every three years. The 24-month interval applies to fire protection training.

Briefings must be regular, understandable and demonstrable; they take place during working hours, and the employer must check employees' knowledge.

How our training works

In person at your company

We come to you anywhere in Slovakia. Instead of quoting laws, we use educational videos, photos, practical demonstrations and discussion.

Online e-learning

Employees train on a computer, tablet or phone. At the end there is a test and an automatically generated certificate. More on the E-learning page.

Record for inspections

For every training session we prepare a briefing record with the date, scope, names and signatures that will stand up to a Labour Inspectorate inspection.

Training has two parts: a general briefing carried out by a qualified person, and a briefing directly at the workplace provided by a manager. We keep track of repeat training deadlines for you.

Professional training with a licence

Some activities require professional training and a licence, certificate or other document in addition to ordinary training (Section 16 of Act No. 124/2006 Coll.). The licence is issued for an indefinite period, but the holder must complete refresher training within 5 years and then every 5 years.

ActivityRefresher training
Operating powered industrial trucks (forklifts)8 hours
Load slinger6 hours
Work at height using rope access techniques8 hours
Scaffolder4 hours
Selected construction machinery6 hours
Mobile and tower cranes, mobile elevating work platforms4 hours

Under Decree No. 356/2007 Coll. Working without the required licence can lead to a fine of €300 to €33,000.

First aid and evacuation

The employer must appoint and train a sufficient number of employees to provide first aid, rescue work, evacuation and fire-fighting, and set out in writing the procedure in the event of injury (Section 8 of Act No. 124/2006 Coll.). We can also help with a first aid course.

Frequently asked questions about OSH training

How often must OSH training be repeated?

Repeat briefings must take place at least once every three years, unless a special regulation sets a shorter interval (Section 7(5) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll.). The employer sets the exact frequency in an internal regulation.

When must an employee complete OSH training?

When hired, when transferred to another workplace, when assigned or transferred to other work and when new technology, a new work procedure or new work equipment is introduced (Section 7(3) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll.). Briefings take place during working hours.

Must employees on agreements also be trained?

Yes. OSH obligations apply to all employees, including those working under agreements outside an employment contract.

Can OSH training be online?

The law does not expressly regulate the form of training. Training must be understandable, demonstrable, include a knowledge check and take place during working hours. Our OSH and fire protection e-learning ends with a test and an automatically generated certificate. The briefing directly at the workplace is provided by a manager.

Who can provide OSH training?

The employer personally, its employees or a person authorised by the National Labour Inspectorate to provide education and training (Section 7(4) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll.). The title “authorised safety technician” has not existed since 1 January 2023.

How long does OSH training take?

When training is provided by a person authorised for education and training, both the initial and repeat briefing last at least 3 hours and end with an exam. A written test requires at least 75% correct answers (Decree No. 356/2007 Coll.).

What fine can be imposed for untrained employees?

For breaching OSH regulations, the Labour Inspectorate can impose a fine of up to €100,000. If this resulted in a work accident with serious injury, at least €20,000, and for a fatal accident at least €33,000 (Section 19 of Act No. 125/2006 Coll.).
