Basic fire brigade course: professional training for volunteer fire brigade members
Basic training of fire brigade members in the scope of 40 hours under Decree of the Ministry of the Interior No. 611/2006 Coll. For municipal volunteer fire brigades and company fire brigades: theory, practical training with equipment and exam preparation. The course is led by trainers and members of the Fire and Rescue Service with many years of experience.

The aim of the training is for a brigade member to be able to handle a fire response, rescue work during natural disasters and other emergencies, and to protect themselves and others while doing so.
How the course works

Theory. Regulations, organisation of service, combustion and extinguishing agents, tactics and first aid.
Practical training. Practice with fire-fighting equipment and resources under the guidance of experienced instructors.
Exam. A theoretical and practical exam before a committee appointed by the brigade's founding body.

How many hours does the basic fire brigade course have?
Basic training of fire brigade members has a scope of 40 hours (Section 16(4) of Decree of the Ministry of the Interior No. 611/2006 Coll. on fire brigades).
Who can provide basic training for volunteer fire brigade members?
Only a legal entity or self-employed person holding an authorisation for this activity issued by the Ministry of the Interior (Section 16(4) of Decree No. 611/2006 Coll.).
How does basic training end?
With a theoretical and practical exam before a committee appointed by the brigade's founding body, i.e. the municipality or company (Section 16(6) of Decree No. 611/2006 Coll.).
What is the difference between training for members and for employees of fire brigades?
Basic training for members, such as municipal volunteer firefighters, has 40 hours. Basic training for employees of fire brigades has 400 hours, of which 90 hours are theory (Section 16(1) of Decree No. 611/2006 Coll.).
Must volunteer brigade commanders undergo further training?
Yes. Commanders and squad leaders of municipal volunteer and company fire brigades complete cyclical training of 24 hours once every 5 years at the district directorate of the Fire and Rescue Service.
