Fire-retardant coatings protect steel and timber structures in a fire. On steel, they form an insulating foam when heated, which delays the loss of load-bearing capacity; on wood, they reduce flammability. We supply the right coating according to the substrate, area and the resistance required by the building's fire safety design.
extends the fire resistance of steel structures, depending on the specification by approximately 15 to 45 minutes
steel beams and columns in halls, warehouses and production, indoors and outdoors
Intumescent coating for wood
reduces the flammability of wood and delays ignition; white, can be overpainted with emulsion paint
roof trusses, attics, interior timber cladding
Transparent coating for wood
protects wood without changing its appearance; at higher consumption it also increases the resistance of loaded timber structures
visible timber elements, interiors, furniture
The exact parameters – consumption in g/m², layer thickness and achieved classification – depend on the specific product and are stated in its technical data sheet.
Substrate and environment. Steel or wood, interior or exterior and the humidity of the environment determine the type of coating and top protection.
Area and profile. For steel, the required coating thickness depends on the shape and thickness of the section; for wood, on the required effect.
Application according to procedure. Substrate preparation, primer, keeping to the layer thickness and drying conditions exactly according to the manufacturer's technological procedure.
Note: a coating without proven parameters or applied at the wrong thickness will not achieve the resistance required by the design and will not pass the final building approval or a fire authority inspection. Always ask for the product documents.
Frequently asked questions about fire-retardant coatings
What is the difference between a fire-retardant coating for steel and one for wood?
A coating for steel extends the time during which a steel structure keeps its load-bearing capacity in a fire. A coating for wood reduces the flammability of wood and delays its ignition. Each is intended for a different substrate and they cannot be interchanged.
How does an intumescent fire-retardant coating work?
At elevated temperatures the coating swells and forms a thick foam layer on the surface that insulates the structure from heat. That is why it is called an intumescent coating.
For how many minutes does the coating protect a steel structure?
It depends on the product, the shape and thickness of the section and the applied layer. The steel coating we supply is designed to protect steel structures for 15 to 45 minutes.
Can a fire-retardant coating also be used outdoors?
The steel coating is suitable for indoor and outdoor use, with a protective top coat in humid environments. Wood coatings are intended mainly for indoor use at a relative humidity of up to 80%.
Who determines what fire resistance a structure needs?
The fire safety design of the building, prepared by a fire protection specialist (Section 9(3) of Act No. 314/2001 Coll.). It shows which structure needs which coating.
How do I get a price for the coating?
In the form, state the delivery location, the type of substrate (steel or wood) and the area in m². We will prepare a quote promptly.
Send us the area and substrate and we will prepare a price
The delivery location, steel or wood and the area in m² are enough for a prompt quote.
